What’s a good gift for a newborn?

Now we know that newborns aren’t going to be able to thank you for their gifts, but that’s not the point!

The best part about gifts is the giving, and anything that helps out the parent is a plus too. Baby bunny outfits are really cute, but we thought we’d pick out a few suggestions that have got the top-rated thumbs up from parents, namely from our co-founder Clare who recently became a Mum to lovely Neve.

Baby gifts that parents love

1. Star Shaped all-in-one Baby Wrap

Star Shaped all-in one Baby Wrap

This very reasonably priced baby wrap comes in lots of designs and colours. You could say it’s halfway between a blanket and an outdoor suit. Baby stays warm, but Mum or Dad can get the little one in and out nice and easily (less time spent carefully getting those lovely little arms and legs through the arm and leg holes). Great for when the parents are in a rush and still a very cute outfit, wouldn’t you say?

2. Black and White Geometric Books

Baby Sensory Black and White Books

Vouched for by the Mum of a 3-week-old, these black and white geometric baby books are a good little distraction for babies and keep them entertained (for a bit). In those early days, a baby’s eyesight is still developing and these bold contrasting images are said to aid concentration and focus. It’s never too early to start adding to the bookcase and adults may also find themselves staring into the pages too…

3. Supersoft Organic Merino Wool Fleece Suit

Supersoft Organic Merino Wool Fleece Suit

A bit higher up the price scale, but oh so adorable, are these Engel organic wool fleece suits. Unlike the star blankets, you will have to feed baby’s arms and legs through the garment, but they’re still easy to get into.  Made from completely organic material, these fleeces won’t overheat, and have a great design around the hands and feet allowing Mum or Dad to fold the ends over to keep covered; or folded out so baby’s hands and feet can go free. Just look at this green fleece suit here – like a pea in a pod! Too cute.

4. Sensory Mobile

These crib mobiles with a monochrome inner pattern have the same effect as the black and white sensory books, but leave you hands-free! This one can be attached to multiple baby products making it super versatile. It might only give you a few minutes of peace in the early days, but that’s all you need to grab yourself a caffeine fix right? (!)

5. Tommee Tippee Sangenic Tec Nappy Disposal System

One could argue that this is not really a baby present, but find us a parent that won’t appreciate this. This clever Sangenic nappy disposal system traps all smells, is visually pleasing to look at and easy to set up. The refill bags aren’t too extortionate either!

6. Touchscreen winter gloves with grips

Winter is coming (sorry couldn’t resist). Those fingers will freeze walking around outside with a pram. These North Face gloves, with touchscreen fingertips, and grips ensure that there’ll be no slipping of phones or prams and hands stay nice and warm

Yes, not really a gift for the baby, but again, who are you trying to impress?

A gift for the new parents

If you’ve received a brilliant gift either for your baby or as a new parent please share below!
